WHAT EXACTLY IS GREEN IT???
Green IT has nothing to do with your grass, the country of Ireland, or any leprochauns you may be privy too. We live in a world today where we are trying to be enviornmentally responsible as well as conscientous. Green IT is alot more than that. By practicing Green IT you can actually save yourself quite a bit of money in places where you did not suspect.

Green Chip

Green IT or green computing is the study and practice of using your computer resources with efficiency. Think of it in comparision to your electornics at home (which computing can fall under), your electronics run on electricity. They consume energy and if allowed can consume quite a bit.

Take away all the enviornmental jargon and the concept of green computing is clear. How do I take my computers, network equipment, printers, and everything that I own and make them operate so that they use less power and they are more efficient? There are two short web videos in the middle of page. Click on them to get a general idea of the different sides of Green computing and what it is, and how it can benefit you. SPIT IN THE EYE OF THE ELECTRIC COMPANY AND LOWER THAT BILL.

TOP REASONS TO GO GREEN

1. Money. It saves you money. That alone should be the most prominent and important reason. Change the way you use your IT investment and save money in the long-term.

2. Sustained growth requires sustained operation. The average pc consumes 588 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, and wasts almost 400 kWh of that by running at full power when not in use. As your company grows you need to get control over your equipment. Controlling the energy used is an important advantage.

3. Energy efficient IT is high performance. Your equipment can account for the majority of your power consumption. Consolidiating your older enviornment into a virtual enviorment and remote clients will make you more efficient in terms both energy and productivity.

4. Inspire others. When your colleagues see how you have strategically reduced your power consumption they will follow suit. Not only will you be looked upon as a savior of the enviornment but you will have made the CEO of your look utility company very sad.

5. By going green you change the basic strategy of how you operate. You are long held to the risks of your electric company failing. Setting up a virtual office, having your data off site, yet accessible. Power failures be dammned.

6. Its not expensive and you save money. See reason one.
